About the Role
We are seeking an innovative thinker, well-versed in applied emerging technologies.
The UX/Human Factors Designer will work out of our Waltham, MA office, and lead or collaborate in the end-to-end UX design process, from initial research to final implementation, ensuring that our clients’ products are highly usable and polished.
As UX/Human Factors Designer, you lead or participate in UX efforts, making key design decisions and ensuring a positive user experience in the products we design. You collaborate with cross-functional teams, conduct user research, create workflows and wireframes, communicate with stakeholders, and work with developers to ensure a polished final implementation. We have a hybrid work environment. You will be expected to be in the Waltham office at least 3 days a week.
Responsibilities
Design Leadership
Lead UX design efforts for assigned projects, making strategic design decisions and guiding junior designers.
Collaborate closely with product stakeholders, engineers, and other design team members to define requirements, develop solutions, and ensure alignment.
Presentation and Communication
Effectively present design ideas and rationale to stakeholders, both verbally and visually. Foster a relationship of trust within the design team and with client stakeholders.
Experience with Regulated/Safety-specific Products
Possess an understanding of risk management and safety regulations as they relate to the design of computer interfaces.
Knowledge of the FDA Regulatory Process
Familiarity with the processes and documents needed for submission to the FDA for medical device approval.
User-Centered Design
Practice user-centered design, which may include conducting user research, including interviews, surveys, and usability testing, to gather insights into user needs and preferences.
Knowledge of UX Principles, Heuristics, and Design Patterns
Can apply the language of interactivity appropriately to a UI, following industry standards and values.
Understanding of Design Processes
Utilize standard design processes to achieve excellent design outcomes.
Wireframing and Prototyping
Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups to visualize and communicate design concepts.
Utilize Cutting-edge Processes and Tools
Keep abreast of emerging technologies to drive innovation and continuous improvement in your design work.
Mentoring
Mentor junior UX designers, sharing knowledge and best practices.
Qualifications
M.A./M.S. in Human Factors or related discipline, or B.A./B.S. with commensurate experience
Minimum 5-10 years of UI and usability design experience, with a strong portfolio showcasing your work
Skill in leading design efforts and documenting UIs
Skill in conducting all user research methodologies (e.g., user interviews, usability testing)
Ability to translate design workflows into interactive wireframes
Experience with industry-standard design tools, including Figma
Excellent communication skills (presenting, writing)
Ability to solve complex design problems
